emarkd (24), Georgia, USA Mar 31, 2008 Wow. Pours a reddish-brown color with a thick tan head. Aroma is complex, sweet and malty - like fresh bread - with a noticeable alcohol smell. Wonderful in the mouth. Great body and balance, sweet and spicy and malty with a definite alcohol presence. Finishes with just a little aftertaste. Overall, It’s wonderful. oldno7 (135), Spokane, Washington, USA Mar 31, 2008 (Aged for 3 years)- Pours a dark, murky, dirty brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is fairly aggressive of alcohol and musk, also traces of caramel, vanilla and fruit. The flavor of this beer is Amazing. I could not defie this beer in one word. It is smooth, crisp, explosive and it all balances out. It has notes of malt, plum, yeast, honey and spices. Very Well Done. McGarnigle (303), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 30, 2008 Drink by 050912. Not much new to be said. Cap pops due to the carbonation when opening. Powerful, toffee-ish aroma. Long-lasting head. I drank it slowly (the strong flavor and carbonation slowed me down) and the last sip was still foamy. Rich, dark fruit flavor. A bit like a chocolate fig cake (if such a thing exists). Alcohol is noticeable, but not harsh. Warms my rib cage. FleeVT (40), Boca Raton, Florida, USA Mar 28, 2008 330ml brown bottle poured into a Chimay Goblet.
Hazy dark brown with hints of red. A nice thick tan head with small bubbles as a top hat. Looks like an A&W commercial. The head eventually recedes to a half finger.
Sour and malty with a bit of toast on the nose followed by caramel sweetness, almost like cola. Light yeasts present as well.
Fantastic palate. Spices, caramel and malt all balanced perfectly up front. Alcohol cuts in for the finish and leaves minimal aftertaste. The transition from sweet to alcohol reminds me of a bananas foster.
Heavily carbonated with medium body. Nice smooth brew.
Best I’ve had in this category. Will be back. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 26, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Clear brown pour with a red tint. Thick head. Nice strong aroma. Very fruity and sour with malt and hops. Grainy yeasty flavor with just a touch of sweetness. Fruity raisin notes and a hint of chocolate, toffee, and molasses. Pretty good, but the alcohol is a little bit overpowering. Good body blueturk (68), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Mar 25, 2008 Pours a deep burgundy with medium brown head and high carbonation. Aromas are of prunes, raisins, and caramel. Nice alcohol balance with burnt flavors of dark specialty malts, and complexity from Belgian yeast and some sweetness. Very pleasant! SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 25, 2008 330 mL bottle - big cream head fades to a thin layer; dark brown and hazy around the edges; aromas of bread, dates and sweet malts; very rich aromas overall; texture as well is rich and creamy that is slightly reduced by the carbonation; mild flavors-wise to me, but really loved the nose matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Mar 24, 2008 330 ml bottle froma trade with paco. pours brownish red with a mid sized tan head that is everlasting. aromas of raisons, sweet candy, and trappist yeast. flavours are wonderful dark belgian with dark fruit in the mouth and that great rochefort yeast quality. the yeast strain in this is what sets it apart from other belgians. supurb in everyway.
