IPAGargoyleGuy (139), Troy, NY, New York, USA Mar 5, 2008 Very light and soft for its high alc content. I could have done without the slight sourness at the end, but otherwise an excellent Belgian Strong Ale. abcfan (244), New Jersey, USA Mar 2, 2008 Pours a nice brown color with tan head. Aroma is very yeasty. Tastes of chocolate and fruits. Decent beer, but not as good as I was expecting. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Mar 2, 2008 Updated: May 31, 2008Pours dark brown with a thick, lasting one finger head. Aroma of toffe, chocolate, dark fruits, and yeast. Extremely complex beer with notes of vanilla, toffee, and chocolate. Has a strong vineous quality. This beer has a lot going one. Very smooth finish. Exceptional beer. Mugsie84 (4), Inverness, Illinois, USA does not count Mar 1, 2008 One of the best trappist ales I have had. Dark nut brown poor with a medium sized head. Crisp finish with out being overly sweet like some competitors. I can only imagine what the 10 must taste like. vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Feb 26, 2008 The bottling code on this one was L050912 08:21, indicating a bottling date of September 2007. The 9.20% ABV beer poured a dark (rootbeer) brown, and even with an easy pour developed a thick foamy beige head. Lots of sticky lacing is left as the head drops. The aroma has notes of banana, clove and yeast. The taste of the Rochefort 8 is malty and complex, with hints of vanilla, milk chocolate and brown sugar. There’s a slightly bitter aftertaste though the beer finishes cleanly leaving little behind. The mouthfeel is highly carbonated. sfhc21 (74), Midlothian, Texas, USA Feb 25, 2008 Bottle. Very strong ale. Chocolate flavors, leaning a bit towards the burned side. Spicy. Decent, but not what I was expecting. I don’t know why so many people like these beers? Is it the percentage of alcohol that fuzzes the clear thoughts? The appearance is of a bad dull brown colour which doesn’t appeal to the appetite and has a smell of bad yeast. The taste is even more alarming. So I couldn’t stand it and even my son, who drinks everything alcoholic couldn’t stand it. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 20, 2008 Thanks to Karel for sharing. Beautiful burgundy red with medium beautiful lacing tan head. Amazing aroma of dark fruits, caramel, sugar, spice, yeast, sherry, brandy, and alcohol. Beautiful in the mouth. Strong dark fruits again, with brown sugar and molasses throughout. Quite spicy and sweet. Amazing complexity, yet so easy to drink. Very effervescent mouthfeel. This beer is a classic and a must try. My favorite of the Rochefort lineup.
