santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 20, 2008 Thanks to Karel for sharing. Beautiful burgundy red with medium beautiful lacing tan head. Amazing aroma of dark fruits, caramel, sugar, spice, yeast, sherry, brandy, and alcohol. Beautiful in the mouth. Strong dark fruits again, with brown sugar and molasses throughout. Quite spicy and sweet. Amazing complexity, yet so easy to drink. Very effervescent mouthfeel. This beer is a classic and a must try. My favorite of the Rochefort lineup. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 20, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Bottle. Pours a chocolatey brown with a very good sized fluffy slightly tan head. Not a lot of lacing at all. Aroma is raisins, chocolate malt, banana, molasses, peach. Flavor is ripe fruits, chocolate maltiness, plum, sarsaparilla, ginger. So good. Chewy and sinuous, and crazily drinkable. An awesome beer. popdoggy (100), USA Feb 18, 2008 I really liked this one. In a chalice. Umm alot like the comparable chimay... but cheaper. Indulged in too many high end beers that night but this was the finest of the evening. strings (361), Sydney, Australia Feb 18, 2008 Fell in love with this beer in Belgium ’02 (although must confess can’t recall whether it was the 8 or the 10). On trying again in Melbourne recntly, must confess it didn’t wow me like then, but I suppose I’ve had a lot of great beers in between. Still deliciously chocolatey though with a lovely burnt fruit pudding feel. And while the alcohol is ridiculously prominent, really complements the package. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Feb 17, 2008 Nice belgian ale, strong and sweet. Pours dark brown color with frothy head. Nice sweet smell with sweet taste and aftertaste of alcohol. God I love this beer, and I finally rated all the Trappistes! Bontus (291), Waasmunster, Belgium Feb 17, 2008 Updated: Oct 2, 2008Pours brown, not ruby. Sweet nose, aroma of mainly dark sugar and other sweetness.
More carbonated and alcoholic than Rochefort 10 or Chimay Bleue.
Fantastic mouthfeel.
Would drink again :) bchlala (42), Denmark Feb 16, 2008 I tasted this beer before I got my account with ratebeer, so I can’t really remember all the flavors. CP (124), USA Feb 13, 2008 Well this was a pretty bad experience. Has a terrible biting alcohol taste. I can only how much worse the 10 would be. Tastes as if somebody dropped a shot of vodka in a Budweiser. Just not my style at all and I don’t see the appeal. Probably never will. Palate be damed.....
