phantomtwister (18), Belgium Jan 12, 2008 This beer is for 90% the same like the 10. Just more alcohol. Very good beer! RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Jan 11, 2008 Updated: Feb 24, 2008Pours chocolate brown, almost opaque, with a thick, enduring head. Intricate lacing all the way down.
Aroma is of cherries, yeast, and certainly some alcohol.
Some fruity flavors - raisins, plums, figs - and yes, more alcohol.
Carbonation seems to dance on the tongue, then it’s a silky smooth ride.
This is truly a special experience. Treat yourself.
Whelk (124), Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England Jan 11, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark reddish-brown with a pillowy off-white head. Aroma is raisins, candi sugar, coffee, chocolate. Flavors are raisins, candi sugar, coffee, chocolate, crystal malts, vinous, and some plum/dark cherry. Very smooth. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jan 8, 2008 Very cloudy burnt caramel color with a monstrous off-white head that never escapes the glass. Tons of sediment, even on the first pour...and the aroma is of dark fruit, brown sugar, and red wine. Plum and cherry notes give way to a peppery finish. Smooth and extremely drinkable, this is a great Trappist brew!!! wilderthanyou (409), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2008 Pours a dark mahogany brown with a thin short lived beige head. The aroma is deep and complex, with notes of fruit, spice, chocolate, toffee, and big notes of licorice. Flavours are just as complex, with fruit and toffee sweetness upfront, a bit of chocolate, and then a strong licorice finish. The thing that really holds this beer back is the palate, is just found it a little thin, and watery to be holding all those flavours. I like this beer, but I was expecting more. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Jan 7, 2008 Huge, rocky, beige head atop a cloudy, reddish brown body with excellent lacing. Yeasty, dark fruit aroma followed by caramel malt and mild spiciness. Continually evolving taste; from the soft, chocolatey malt to the fruity, vinous, toffeeish flavors. Full bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel leading to a prolonged finish with an alcohol punch that creeps up on the unsuspecting. mike1977ok (633), Netherlands Jan 6, 2008 Pours a muddy brown colour with thin white head. Aroma is sweet, candied fruits and bubblegum. Fairly lively carbonation on the tongue leads to the beer foaming up in the mouth releasing flavours that are of dark, sweet fruits and floral notes. The aftertaste is fairly clean but the alcohol does start to dominate a little too much in the end.
