ska (125), Italy Jul 7, 2009 33cl bottle, dark brown with creamy beige head, strong aroma of dark chocolate, licorice and fruits (plum, peach), roasted notes, spiced flavor, medium body, finish with spices and some alcohol, not as expected but really complex MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 7, 2009 From Firefly. Poured out a very dark brown beneath a creamy beige head, perhaps two fingers thick. Aroma was spiced and also featured some darker fruits, perhaps raisins or plums, hence the resulting sweetness to the taste. Mouthfeel was solid and smooth, and nearly too sweet at the finish. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Jul 5, 2009 nose of yeast and some pit fruits, raisins specifically. appearance is dark brown and nearly opaque. flavor is of hops and alcohol that sizzle and dance on my liips and palate. a burn starts then fades quickly to a smooth end that is not dry. high ABV for an ’8’ but comes across as it should on that arbitrary scale. a mellow beer that comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, world class. thelizard (27), Canton, Ohio, USA Jul 5, 2009 Bottle at the Beer Engine. Pours a dark, murky brown, with a thin white head. Loses appearance points for containing gross-looking wheat flakes (which are tasteless, though). Fantastic taste though. Very dark and complex. Hard to describe, but thoroughly recommended. bergstaden (99), Røros, Norway Jul 5, 2009 Amber / light brown color, solid off white head with nice flowery smell - Very nice malty taste, fuity taste from hops, the high alcohol level very nice hidden - very nice and complex beer with a long lasting aftertaste mcdav2154 (295), Germany Jul 4, 2009 .33l bottle bought in Luxembourg City. Poured very dark brown with hints of red. Off white head was huge but left quickly. No lacing was a minus but the vast amount of sediment was a plus. Very cool. You can smell a ton of spices and alcohol. Flavor of alcohol was strong but the spices and grapefruit feel was nice. Great beer. I can’t wait to have the R10 later today. Pipper (226), Ohio, USA Jul 3, 2009 Bottle at the Beer Engine. Pours thin murky river color. Off white head. Pale IPA flavor. Really strange and soooo different from the 10. jrallen34 (123), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2009 This is a still a great beer, but just can’t live up to its big brother R10.
For $6 cheaper a beer, I’ll sadly drink more R8 then R10.
