The smell is yeasty, sweat and fruity. There are a lot of subtle notes in the flavor - apples, chocolate, grapes, raisins. This has very well-masked alcohol. Slightly different from the 10, but, in my opinion, just as good. nick76 (2676), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 5, 2005 The aroma is sweet, malty, and fruity with plenty of alcohol. The appearance is cloudy reddish brown with lots of particulates in it. The flavor is complex with plums, spices, malt, yeast, caramel, and alcohol. And for a beer with a 9.2% alcohol it feels like 13%. It hits you up front and goes all the way to the finish. The aftertaste is not unlike wine. Overall a very high quality beer. I just don’t like the strong alcohol content. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA

Pours a nice deep cloudy brown, large light chocolate head, and literally sheets of lace that last to the very bottom of the glass! Big malt start, the middle is medium, the finish is nicely hopped, the ’Alcohol’ definately rears its head at the finish as it warms you pleasantly. Dry, acidic, high carbonation, what a great beer!!!!!!

Aroma is kinda lacking, though has a nice fresh breadiness and sweetness that is similar among trappists I’ve had. Taste really shines, though, with a powerful fresh bread taste that carries beets, orange, plum, coriander perhaps, freshly fermented yeast, mint, and rye bread. It is creamy and the alcohol is hardly noticable. A very swell beer... I look forward to drinking more of this in the future. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark

Aroma is sweet fruity with notes of berries, apricot, nut and chocolate. Flavor is sweet and smooth and very complex. Plum, raisins etc. An excellent beer though thinner and not as good as Rochefort 10! maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Mouldy fruit plum bread aroma with dank cellar wood notes and medium alcohol. Clear, dark red amber body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Mostly dull fruity bread and woodsy dark raisin malt flavour with hints of chocolate. Dull medium-full body is a little dry. Very interesting combination of senses. downender (2626), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2007 Deep brown with a moderate, tan head. Aroma of plain chocolate with malt and preserved dark fruit. Flavour also suggested chocolate, but was marred by a suggestion of cornflour and a cloying, sweet finish. Good but not amazing.
