Prune, cinnamon and spiced aroma. Big forward flavour, punctuated once by alcohol and the followed by spiced tart flavour. The palate is short and tart. I’m struggling to score it has highly as some others. Perhaps I might cellar a few and see how they fare. This bottle has a used by date of 25/02/08 drewbeerme (2305), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 26, 2007 sampled at blind "Better Know a Style: Belgian Strong Ale" tasting 07. poured a creamy off white head and slightly hazy reddish brown. looks very nice. nose has nice molasses, raisin, plums, and pretty yeasty. flavor is pretty sweet with raisins. a strangley bland flavor that rewards you with tons of alcohol in the finish. plate is full and rich but way too much alcohol in the finish. a surprise let down at this blind tasting. This superb Trappist ale pours with an enormous thick head, colour is cloudy dark brown. It has a lovely aroma of oak, leather, dried fruits and a hint of cigar tobacco. Flavour is malty and spicy with a warming mouthfeel, otherwise alcohol is well hidden. Dangerously drinkable! Moderate bitterness, rounded aftertaste. This ale truly belongs in the Premier League of Beers!

Hoppy toffee aroma...very very complex taste...cinnamon definately, then plum...VERY sweet almost like a port. Very full bodied...I have a bottle of 10 that I have not tried yet...we shall see. I will order another of these though and try again later. JohnC (2286), Mission Viejo, California, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2003 Fine, dark color and head. Lacing. Good aroma with notes of dark fruits. The flavor has a lot to offer: Dades, raisin and perhaps a little laqurice. Real good filling palate. alexanderj (2279), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2006 Bottle. Poured a dark rusty brown color. White colored head. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, yeast and fruit; possibly fig. Initial taste, so much going on. Very complex. Tastes of malt, fruit, caramel, nuts, etc. I picked up a peppery feel. Alcohol not overpowering. Was impressed with complexity; overall it was very good. Bragesnak (2276), Aarhus, Denmark
