Didnt write anything down last night. This beer drinks well below 9.2% Fairy spritzy, with dark fruits and spices highlighted in the flavor. Trappistes are great. beastiefan2k (1605), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA

The beer pours with just a little bit of white lacing of head. Very dark, murky, brown. Cannot even see into the beer, very little sediment. Smells sweet but not sugary. The beers pops in your mouth. Nice slightly heavy body. Taste is strong and sweet but cannot feel the 9% alohol. Goes down without any bitterness. Truly an outstanding beer, worth all the praise. Aroma of fruit, yeast, bread, and butter. Taste of malt, caramel, toffee, and fruits. Alcohol burn when going down. This medium bodied brew is well balanced and quite tasty but maybe I was expectimg more than there was. Doggythedog (1597), Split, Croatia
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 2, 2005 0.33l bottle @ Tolkien’s House, Zagreb, odd broad La Trappe glass Poured a very dark brown and murky body with a small creamy tanish head that went away fast. Lovely aroma: plums, figs, raisins, random fruit, liquorice, malt, some acidity. The taste isn’t worse. It started with distinct roastiness which was intertwined with a lovely banana taste. Gum candy could be felt, and dark malts, and some berry coated in brown sugar, even some lemon could be felt in the last few sips. EVen this lovely herbal yet fruity taste I identified in Orval as aloe vera is there. Alcohol is well hidden, and what little could be felt actually improved the taste. The aftertaste consisted of some odd roasty yet sweet caramel that stuck to introduce the hoppy bitterness which was rather incospicuous. Lovely stuff. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 2, 2006 From a 33 cl. slender brown bottle with a best before date on the front label, 28.04.09, sampled at cellar temperature in a Rochefort chalice.
Poured a cloudy lightly orange hued brown with a foamy head that settled into a thin sudsy, fizzy lacing.
Aromas of rum cake spices, fruity, pears and ripe figs and nice fruity esters, the alcohol whiffs are quite pleasant.
Good fizzy carbonation and a crisp, dry, carbonated smooth light bodied mouthfeel.
Delicious tasting, rum cake malty, a good rum spiciness, caramelized sugary, sweet baked apples and figs fruitiness, the alcohol is spicy and provides a nice warmth in the palate and a dry, sweet spicy, fig and bread malty finish, excellent Belgian drinkability, very quaffable for a strong ale.
Rochefort brews some of the best ales available to the USA, a must try for anyone exploring the world of beer.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jan 29, 2002 A simple brown in color; Large, dense, rocky head; Pleasent cheery bread aroma that warmed to something akin to an apple jolly rancher. First sip is remarkably smooth. A dryness emrges on the sides. Vinuous and maybe just a tad too syrupy- hence the low palate score. Warms beautifully. Very warming. TheBeerOrg (1586), Kentucky, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 9, 2006 Pours a dark mocha brown with a thick, mostly receding tan head. Aroma of plums, raisins, vinous malt, toffee, and caramel. Taste of fruity esters, sweet caramel, pepper, light smoke, leather, oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lush, wispy carbonation. This was a pretty fresh sample, with a surprising amount of hoppiness. Most certainly a cellar selection. Saarlander (1583), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA
