A simple brown in color; Large, dense, rocky head; Pleasent cheery bread aroma that warmed to something akin to an apple jolly rancher. First sip is remarkably smooth. A dryness emrges on the sides. Vinuous and maybe just a tad too syrupy- hence the low palate score. Warms beautifully. Very warming.

BB 12/27/2012...rich copper/woody amber with lots of clumpy yeasties and a soft off white head which deposits some spotty lacing. smells of piloncilla/brown sugar/candy, cooked golden raisins, chocolate, nuts, lots of graininess, spice and grassy/floral hoppiness. lots of spice on the palate makes the alcohol apparent... flavors of cinnamon, flowers/hops, raw sugar, wood and watered down pureed golden raisins with a prickly finish from a high level of carbonation. medium body. as the carbonation settles down it gives a slick texture that coats the tongue. so like westy 8 at this age...

Certainly not as impressive as a Westy, dark brownish in color, nice fluffy off-white head, nuts & raisins in the flavors, sweet malty finish

Bottle Pours a slightly orange brown with a small off white head. Even silky lacing. Aromas are a medly of vanilla, banana belgian spices, pitted fruit. Flavors are much the same. caramel, brown sugar, dark sweet malts and raisons. Smooth but not very heavy feel that just slips down. Slightly bitter, spice aftertaste.

Bottle from Onlyfinebeer (12.08.08). poured a murky, dark brown with a large, foamy/creamy off-white head. Aroma is great; malts, caramel and slightly sweet, spices, raisins and other dark fruit. Surprisingly thirst quenching and drinkable. Full bodied and creamy. Taste is sweet malts, dry and gets sweeter in the mouth with a nice long faint aftertaste. Alcohol is well hid. Excellent.

Massive tan head above a body that is brown with amber tinting. Aroma is very nice... sweet cloves, heavy fruit (cherry and prune come to mind) and caramel. Flavor is very complex and blends together superbly. Caramel backbone with definite fruity undercurrents and a bit of a tartness that comes through near the tail end. Top notch.

(Re-rate on 2008-12-21, Bottle BBE 301713) Dark brown and cloudy. Quite big white head. Malts and anis in nose. Full bodied palate with quite high carbonation. Malts, anis, light bitterness, chocolate, sweetness and hint of fruitiness. Malts and anis in aftertaste. (Bottle at Hilpeä Hauki on 2008-02-23) Dark brown with hints of red. White browish small head. Malts and fruitiness in nose. A bit stinging feeling in palate that changes towards dryness. Malts and frutiness in taste. 8-4-7-3-13

WOW! Vive les trapistes! Belle couleur rouge foncé/noir, arome invitant de fruit, très bon goût d’épice et de fruit. Elle ne goûte pas comme une très forte. Je veux essayer la 10!!
