The strain of yeast used imparts a fruity flavor that is only found in the best Belbian ales. An excellent ale. BeerBlockaid (548), Jacksonville, Florida, USA

Bought this at Kardstat in Bremen, Germany just for this;)....2.79 euros though whoa! but well worth it. Talk about racking ones brain. Was drinking this while listening to a Guided by Voices. phew! Nice big murky brown body. Nice creamy head. Flavours that hit you are roasted coffee, chocolate, some nasal opening aromatic taste....(did they pour Amol into this too? It would explain the peppermint taste/aroma) Aftertaste carries a plum and a bit of a citrus hint? Nice alchohol hit in the head. Had me buzzin. Cant wait to try the 10... eleusis (70), Denver, Colorado, USA

A pretty, slowly dissipating amber head. Worth its reputation, my first try from brasserie rochefort. Nekronos (2265), Xalapa, Mexico

Hints of plum, licorice?, spices. One of the best of the Trappist abbey ales available outside of Belgium/Netherlands. Rciesla (3830), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Chewy sweet chocolate malts, dark fruit plum and raisin notes. Hints of ash char and and mineral notes. Hints of spicy cinnamon caramel and vinous notes. Infinitely complex and enjoyable. My favorites range 5 to 8 years old. What a phenomenal beer. I raise this glass to the top 100. The rating is for a 2002 vintage bottle consumed in 2008. Amazing brew! spclerk (47), Minnesota, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 28, 2006 Pours dark opaque brown. Gigantic head takes quite a while to leave. Head almost has a kind of pink-bubblegum color. Aroma of dark fruit, champagne, some chocolate and other things my schnoz is too uneducated to describe. Incredibly balanced flavour, nothing really stands out, but it is all good nonetheless. Nice warm alcohol burn about halfway through. I wanted another one right away, then I checked my wallet. A great beer.
