Aroma explodes with complexities - raisins, raspberries, toffee, alcohol, you name it. Flavor is amazingly complex, especially as it warms. Slightly sweet on the onset, but the finish is dry and complex. Amazing, world class beer. I actually liked it better than the 10. scanovajr (361), Stanford, California, USA

Amazing aroma of dark fruits, caramel, sugar, spice, yeast, sherry, brandy, and alcohol. Beautiful in the mouth. Strong dark fruits again, with brown sugar and molasses throughout. Quite spicy and sweet. Amazing complexity, yet so easy to drink. Very effervescent mouthfeel. This beer is a classic and a must try. My favorite of the Rochefort lineup. entropy1049 (40), Oxford, Iowa, USA

Tried some different glassware, got a vigorous head, a big whiff of swill, and said "as good as I think this is, it deserves a re-rate". Nectar of the Gods...Yes Officer, I’ll come along quietly...

Pours from a 330 cloudy medium brown.Very thin medium beige head with minimal retention. Definately an aroma of bananas primarily, with port, and roasted malt for good measure. Nicely carbonated medium mouthfeel with very subtle sweetness...this is definately beer first, dessert after. Oh, man, this is quite a surprise; incredible balance between flavors (banana-malt-a little hop...) and between "beer personalities": mouthfeel, carbonation, detectable alcohol, acidity). I love the mouthfeel! Totally unprepared for it in a trappist ale...A beer buffett without being overbearing! ChrisTurner (202), Melbourne, Australia
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 3, 2007 Bottle -- Deep, dark chocolatey brown wtih a bit of carbonation (when seen with a strong light behind it) stirring up the lees. Huge beige head that you could ski on and lasts and lasts, leaving lots of lacing. Aroma is beautiful, all rich fruit, roasted malt and spices. A full, creamy palate. An explosion of flavour (and complexity) in the mouth, with rich fruits, malt, caramel, chocolate and a touch of alcohol warmth that gently fades in near the end. Perhaps a little watery in the aftertaste. A truly marvelous beer.
