Malty flavor with just enough hop backbone to give it balance. Slight alcohol finish. Great beer but I prefer its big brother. mkofron (155), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Slightly sweet, fruity taste with hints of chocolate(?). I plan on making this a regular drink. I think I’ll need to to work out such a complex flavor. Outstanding. gottalottaibu (243), charlotte, North Carolina, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 18, 2007 Pours a beautiful, cloudy, dark amber almost mohagony brown color into the trappist glass. A small amount of sediment was left in the bottle, with some tiny particles making their way into the trappist glass. There was an inch of perfect, frothy head letting it be known that this is a mother of a beer. The scent was very complex with malt, raisins, caramel, figs, dried fruit and a doughy, biscuity note coming through. A perfect play on the palate, with tiny, crips bubbles exploding on the tongue. There is a nice creamy feel to the finish. The complex flavors included dried fruit, cherries, molasses, alcohol, chocolate and some bitterness. There is a spicey aftertaste and near perfect mouthfeel. This is a tremendous beer that lives up to the hype. rmussman (905), California, USA

Pours with average head, but blossoms into a thick creamy wonder after a couple of minutes. Nice mild caramel aroma. Nice sweet taste with an alchohol nose. Why do I pause to say this is a great beer? Maybe because great isn’t good enough. This beer is great! sigma23 (235), , Maine, USA
