Not quite as good as Rochefort 10, but still a wonderful trappist brew. The excellent aroma gives hints of banana, plums etc. The flavour and long finish is (also) very fruity and spicy. Re-rate: Less sweet and alcoholic than the 10 but with many of the same characteristics and a lovely bitter finish. Rating upgraded from 4 to 4.5 - this is a fantastic beer!

My favorite of the 3 "Rochies". Big plum nose as the others with all sorts of added treasures. Vanilla and cinnemon along with unidentifiable spices. Fruity throughout, rich malty middle and medium dry end. Candi sugar and alcohol in the afterglow. Awesome, one of the best beers out there!

Good full and fruity aroma. Slightly sweet and full-bodied. A complex Belgian Trappist.

(BB 11/10/04) Very expressive bouquet. Very spicy, perhaps hallertau. In addition to the hop nose I detect abundant fruit, candi sugar, and malt. The head is excellent and long lasting. The color reminds me of a tawny port. The carbonation level is very high, almost like champagne. The alcohol is well hidden. This brew is abundant with esters. I am almost drinking this beer too fast. It finishes long, sweet, fruity, and spicy. Rochefort 8 is a very good beer that must be tried by every serious beer enthusiast; it has all the classic Trappist characteristics. The one minor flaw maybe over carbonation.

Fruity, cherry, apple, cinnamon, bubble gum, honey, alcohol aroma comes out of this nutbrown-red ale with the creamy beige head. Spicey, malty, toasted grain flavor with a moderate alcohol flavor. Fizzy carbonation and a moderate finish, rolling over all the tasted flavors. Very nice, well balanced and for me more likeable than the Rochefort 10

09 10 07: Has to be my favorite Trappist to look at. A beautiful, dark, red with a tough, big, creamy, lasting, almost tan, head. Aromas are intenesly fruity, musty, sweet and become super musty after a while. Mouthfeel is thick but not as carbonated as I was expecting. Big body. Fruity, sweet flavors with a sweet finish as well(at first),before becoming musty. The fruity-sweet flavors are dark and somewhat port like. This is probably my fave from this brewer, being the alcohol is hidden, unlike the big brother!

When pouring this beer in my glass the aroma is strong and heavy, fruits, sweet and chocolate, a beautifull head develops which remains till the beer has vanished into my body. I noticed that while drinking, the beautifull head actually cleans the glass. Remarkable...The taste is definately good, but certainly not as complex as its big brother, the number 10. Though it’s well balanced just like the 10. Sweet taste, alchol well masked, just in the finished it’s better noticed. palate could be better. Overall great!

07 07 04 Poured dark brownish/crimson color with a thin foamy head and some nice lacing. Sweet, fruity, some alcohol as well in the aroma. Dark cherries and chocolate taste. Finished rather spicy (cinnamon) that was nicely carbonated with a moderate alcohol burn.
