Slight bit of sweet at the start, but remains dry, long spicy finish and nice rich chocolate in there aswell, and not that heavy considering the ABV, very tasty beer. pivo (2535), Germany

Sweet dark malt taste with toffee tones and a touch of cinnamon-like spices. Full body and fizzy. Alcohol boosts the taste. Fantastic! Darkover (1313), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 15, 2002 When pouring this beer in my glass the aroma is strong and heavy, fruits, sweet and chocolate, a beautifull head develops which remains till the beer has vanished into my body. I noticed that while drinking, the beautifull head actually cleans the glass. Remarkable...The taste is definately good, but certainly not as complex as its big brother, the number 10. Though it’s well balanced just like the 10. Sweet taste, alchol well masked, just in the finished it’s better noticed. palate could be better. Overall great! Saturated brown color. Giant pillowy head with no signs of retreat. Smell of sloe gin and Concorde grapes with a hint of vinegar. Scent of the produce dept. A touch of brewed green tea and sour milk. Faint pineapple aroma. Chocolate and supple leather flavors joined with melon and berries. Cantaloupe joining in. Pineapple flavor? Cappuccino froth lace work. Great malt flavors. Creamy feel on the tongue transforms into a subtle alcohol bite. Chocolate and fruit flavors perk-o-late into the sinus. Front of the tongue left dry with every sip. Long dry finish. Wish it was 3/4L. johninmelb (692), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 12, 2003 Dark brown color. Large head. Aroma is malty, cherry with a touch of chocolate and brandy. A full bodied trappist ale. Big malt flavors. Chocolate, cherries and toffee. Touches of banana, vanilla and raisins. Well balanced. Extremely well balanced. Hides the 9.3% alcohol very well. I think I like this one better than the 10. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is lightly bitter.
