Flavor is slightly less complex than its big brother, but the beer is tighter and more coherent. Perilously drinkable and emminently delicious. papajohn (1055), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA

I detect light chocolate, brandy and black cherry with the nose. Flavor starts moderately sweet caramel with some fruitiness and a hint of spice and brandy. Finish is dry and has a light sour touch. Full and smooth on the palate. Another outstanding Trappist Biere! roder60 (1033), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 1, 2006 Pours a hazy mahogony brown with lots of bubbles along the sides of the glass and a nice amount of fizzy/froathy head. Aroma is alcohol, caramel, toasted almonds, dark chocolate, and sherry. Flavor is very smooth yet complex. Flavor starts malty and sweet with a slightly plummy/spicey flavor. It then drys out and has a bitter banana alcohol warmth to it. Overall, a delicious beer, but i think i preferred the 6 over it, though its close. omhper (12299), Stockholm, Sweden
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2002 Mahogany coloured. Big, wonderful aroma of red berries. Sweet and softly malty. Sparkling mouthfeel. A hint of toffee. Salty finish. A very complex ale, which I actually find even better then it’s stronger cousin. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Chocolate, caramel, brown sugar aroma. Hazy pomegranate in colour, big, noisy, creamy, toffee head, some floaties. Plums, almonds, dark brown bread, black cherries, and towards the middle, chocolate. Complex, an incredible range of flavours, bitter after taste, wonderful mouthfeel. Lace is very long lasting. Great tongue tingle and dry at the finish. A marvelous beer,an incredible privelege! argo0 (6998), Washington DC, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2003 Very cabonated, rich dark ruby color, lots of head, very little lace. BIG aroma, leaps out of the bottle, smells more like wine than beer. Malty, alcohol, chocolate, raisin, assorted berry fruitiness. The chocolaty maltieness and the alcohol started to dominate the more I drank, and it lost a couple of points. Slightly bitter and dry in the finish. MaxPower (961), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
