Incredible smooth finish with drawn out fruit flavor, slight hint of melon. Could be a little more complex in the malt body but the perfect finish earns big points here for me. Better than the 10. Nice cloudy auburn, head was sticky but thin and didn’t hang around too long. Nose is musty and sour, but can also detect hints of sweetness and cola. Flavor is sort of three-pronged, starting with a brandy-burn alcohol kick, a bit metallic and overnoticeable. The kick increases as it warms. At the swallow, this one seemed plenty malty and rich, with nutty cream that had lots of plum, cherries, and peppermint candies. As it’s swallowed and the flavor lengthens, the finish becomes long and toasty with a lingering sweetness of apples and pears, with a final smack of smokiness and faint chocolate. Very complex, worthy of the Trappist label, but I do with the alcohol was a mite more muted--has a bit too much burn to it. legion242 (1586), Richardson, Texas, USA

First sip is remarkably smooth. A dryness emrges on the sides. Vinuous and maybe just a tad too syrupy- hence the low palate score. Warms beautifully. Very warming. f351c4v (408), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA

Anyway, pours a muddy brown color, complete with suspended yeast particles, small tan head. Big aroma, cherries, dark fruit, bready yeast. Perfect mouthfeel, not too thick, nicely carobnated. Tasty, spiced, nutty, lots of malt, touch of cola. Biting, mildly funky finish. A standout beer. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2003 Good brown color, large tan head that lasted for a decent amount of time. The aroma comes off as being very fruity and medium malty, with a slightly yeasty side to it,almost a bread like aroma. The flavor is nicely fruity again with a nice raisin and something else that i can't put my finger on,very nice carbonation to this brew that makes the flavors do a little dance on the tongue. There is a nice presence of malt and the alcohol doesn't get in the way at all but stays some what subdued until the end where it shows up in the finish and a nice light alcohol burn going down.the after taste is fruity and malty. This is another fine brew that was more then worth the trade.thanks JPDIPSO for the constantly good brews that you sent me. Spicy maple vanilla creme notes in the taste with different dark fruits making appearences with each sip. Good complex stuff. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
