Radek Kliber (3342), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 19, 2002 Another great classic that I had chance of trying tonight. The aroma was friendly to me, slightly warm. Outside was getting dark, Christmas lights were on. The cloudy amber type look, the white head on the top, the snow outside on the street. Flavour was full of intensivity, full of complexity. There was some bitterness, some marzipan sweetness. You could notice some dry fruits as well. Very complex yet specific. Overall nicely balanced.
TheJollyOne (13), Kofu, Japan Oct 13, 2008 Poured a finger of white head which diminished quickly but left some wonderful lacing. Medium particles were suspended within a gorgeous deep caramel brown body. Smelled of burnt sugar and a light bouquet of flowers, not too strong. The tase was quite above par; an amazing array of fruits and spice that hid the alcohol perfectly. The palate was fizzy and light, the tase lasting nicely. hellbilly (912), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Oct 12, 2008 BB 12/27/2012...rich copper/woody amber with lots of clumpy yeasties and a soft off white head which deposits some spotty lacing. smells of piloncilla/brown sugar/candy, cooked golden raisins, chocolate, nuts, lots of graininess, spice and grassy/floral hoppiness. lots of spice on the palate makes the alcohol apparent... flavors of cinnamon, flowers/hops, raw sugar, wood and watered down pureed golden raisins with a prickly finish from a high level of carbonation. medium body. as the carbonation settles down it gives a slick texture that coats the tongue. so like westy 8 at this age... Nando_bier (11), Brazil Oct 7, 2008 Excelente cerveja, aromas de caramelo, trufa. Encorpada, notas de álcool bem distintas. Pouca espuma. Demise (1), Wellington, New Zealand does not count Oct 7, 2008 Pours a reddish dark brown colour with a tan head. Reasonably cloudy and head did not last for as long as I’d anticipated - perhaps due to an average pour. Initially flavour is malty, with fruits and spice to follow, ending with smooth toffee and chocolate flavours. These chocolate and caramel flavours come through stronger as the beer progresses, and the raisin and spice become more subtle. Beautifully smooth for such a complex beer, alcohol well hidden. Lovely and warming on a cold day. illkarate (53), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Oct 4, 2008 0.33ml, pours a dark brown with a pale beige head. There is so much yeast in the glass it’s doing backflips with the carbonation. After a few sips, the head is spotted with the yeast and looks like little specks of cinnamon. Amazingly complex beer - malt, dark fruits (raisins, cherries, plums), spice, toffee, liquorice... alcohol on the finish. This is a fantastic beer...
