Draught at 2006 MBG Summer Festival. Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a small creamy light-brown head. Very nice aroma with lots of coffee, roasted malt, some chocolate and hops. Flavour follows the aroma: starts with lots of coffee and roasted malt followed by chocolate and hops -- it’s quite tasty. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Good stuff, I really enjoyed it.

Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. Deep brown with a small tan head. Sweet malt and coffee aroma - a little lighter than I’d like, but OK. Flavour has a nice balance of roasted malt and coffee, with hints of chocolate and cola. Body is on the thin side. Good, but I’ve had better coffee stouts.

Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Deep almost opaque ruby-brown with a decent tan head. Bitter coffee and dry hop arom, some thick molasses-like roast malt, but not too sweet. Taste was very bitter and very roasty, tons of coffee, a little dark chocolate, dry hops and a small hint of cola extract in the finish. To my parched palate (first beer of the day) fairly thick, slightly oily body with a long bitter linger - very nice; COFFEE ... but not incredibly aggressive about it.

Michigan BGF 06, Day 2: Started the event with two stouts from this brewer. This beer was easily the better of the two: Deep brown hue and almost black, small fizzy lasting head. The aroma was indeed coffee imbued with additional notes of roasted malt, smoke, chocolate, and chalky yeast esters. The taste has a sharp coffee bitterness following a moderate malty base. There is some chocolate and prune on the dry finish. Much like it’s stablemate, a tad too thin. A nice brew with subdued character. I liked it enough for two pours.
