Commercial Description:
This deep dark brew may help to tame those cool evenings and put a little spunk in the long nights. You'll flavor the sweet caramel malts, roasted grains, a big mouthfeel and a touch of smoked grain. Serve this baby up with a nice grilled salmon steak and a lemon butter sauce (easy on the sauce, a light brush or two). Continuing to grill, wedge up some previously baked potatoes heat them through and crisp up the edges, slightly burnt on a few. Slice some eggplant about 3/4 of an inch and put some nice diamond grill marks on both sides. On the side mix up a baby greens salad with a little mesqulin mix, spinach leaves, thin sliced carrots a few cherry tomatoes sprinkle with a balsamic vinaigrette, a few capers and a little fresh grated parmesan cheese. Enjoy! Matt

22oz bottle. Pours a brownish color with a small off white head. Head recedes leaving a nice lacing around the glass. Nose is nice choolate with a dark malt note, I dont pick up on any smoke however. Palate is quite carbonated and tingly with a nice crisp finish followed by a filmy residue. Flavor is mostly chocolate with as light dark crystal malt. I like it, not very complex, but nice. Not sure about the whole smoke category though.

A nice clear brown porter with a thick moka head. In aroma, lightly smoked chocolate, light funk, coffee, quite nice. In mouth,a lightly peated bitter chocolate, light vanilla, not bad. Medium bodied. Bottle, tasted Sept. 6 2009.

The appearance is surprisingly light reddish brown. Light seeps through. Lace splattered all over the sides. Head dies down. Doesn’t appear to be a porter but great lace. Very smoky, like coffee grounds and mocha. Roasted but with a sugary sweet raisin and dates. The taste is a nice balance of sweet dark chocolatey and smoky, bitter malts. A somewhat cloying cocoa sweetness at the swallow. Not unpleasant, but not perfect. The feel is milky and yet a little chunky. Strong but smooth. A bit too much. It kind of overcompensates for the smokyness. Decent enough but not as smoky as advertised.

Pours a three finger very light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy brown color. Medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Smokey nose. Flavor is sweet, smokey roasted coffee. Smokey and light bitter finish. $3.99 for a 22oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

22 ounce bottle in Sam Adams glass. Dark brown with lasting dense tan haead and beautiful lace. Mild smokey caramel and yeast chocolate cake aroma. Creamy smokey caramel and chocolate cookies and vanilla (as dnstone calls to mind) with medium dark fruit and nice balanced sessionable and strong finish. Very nice mouthfeel. Pretty good. I’m a little discouraged that the commercial description is more concerned with cooking salmon than brewing beer, but still it’s pretty good.

Poured a medium brown color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, smokiness, some smoked meat, roast, and ligtht caramel. Tastes of chocolate, lighter smoke, and roast. The tastes a bit of a let down compared to the aromas. Alcohol content well hidden with the body on the thin side.
