Not overly smoked, it’s just right. Great malt presence. Chalky, toasty. Best Rock Art I’ve had so far... hellbilly (1534), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2008 bomber brewed 08/08 and fwiw i drank this on 09/08... pours a dark ruby brown (which turns opaque when the yeast sludge is added) with a wispy light tan head and a ton of drippy/trails of lacing. very mildly smoked aroma with umame notes, chocolate, lactic sourness, almond paste and hops which are grassy, spicy and lightly piney. (the aroma pales in comparison to the flavor) soft sour smokey flavor is beautiful... chocolate, roasty malt, cooked cream, caramel, astringency, bitterness and insanely hoppy/grassy/earthy. pleasantly tart finish is quite dry and leads to a lingering charred aftertaste. full bodied but the acidity keeps it crazy drinkable... slick soft carbonation is super smooth on the tongue. (scored as a porter =4.6) btw, the recipe on the label is spot on for this! dnstone (232), Mons, Belgium

Mild smokey caramel and yeast chocolate cake aroma. Creamy smokey caramel and chocolate cookies and vanilla (as dnstone calls to mind) with medium dark fruit and nice balanced sessionable and strong finish. Very nice mouthfeel. Pretty good. I’m a little discouraged that the commercial description is more concerned with cooking salmon than brewing beer, but still it’s pretty good. riversideAK (2779), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Bomber from hellbilly. Thanks man! Nice aroma of chocolate, roast, and sweet smokey bbq. Pours dark brown with some red hues, a thin bubbly head turns into nothing eventually. Bitter roast, chocolate, smoke, earth. A long lingering sharp bitterness. Great mix of bitter, sweet, and smoke. Pretty malty, some alcohol warmth hits the palate after the bitter sweetness rides out. Creamy full body. Nice stuff, but I am a huge fan of smoked porters. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Pours a near black color with a near creamy tan head that sticks to everything. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, smoky wood and a hint of hops. Flavor is very good with all of the above, and the smoke never overtaking the other elements. Just a touch of hops, alcohol and smoke on finish. Creamy and smooth on the palate. Impressive. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 14, 2008 22 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington, VT (January 2008) and served at cellar temperature from a Corsendonk Christmas Ale glass. A small to moderate light tan bubbly head tops the translucent dark maple body, leavign flecks of foam as it decays....nose is decently smoky, though I’d say licorice and port are the dominant fragrances I get; as it warms it gets a bit spicy, rather like a lightly smoky Anchor OSA, which is not a bad thing at all..... body is full and silky, moderately roasty, lightly burnt throughout growing quite charred and rough at the finish, chocolaty and rich throughout with faint notes of the vine, though alcohol isn’t really felt....carbonation seems just a bit too strong and fizzy, but not enough to seriously corrupt what is undoubtedly one of this brewer’s best beers yet. Well done and highly drinkable despite its intensity. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2008 Bottle from Capone’s. The pour is deep brownish black, with direct light needed to see any real dark brown, and a 1-finger or so khaki head. The aroma is nice, a solid rauchy nose coupled with dark malt, some molasses, mild cabernet, and noticeable hops. The palate is a bit hefty, and at various times this one evolves and throws differing flavors at you. Initially, I got a lot of dark malt, molasses, and subdued smoke. As it warms, the hops emerge, matched by a subdued yet effective rauchy malty flavor, and even more molasses and vinous fruity notes. A bit more balance and polish would have thrown this one into the stratosphere. As it stands, it is still a very good example of this style.
