Pours a translucent amber/orange elixir with a sturdy off-white head that retains well, leaving good lacing. The nose is extremely sweet and malty with toffee, caramel, grapefruit and mango (along with other tropical fruits). There is some piney and citric hops to be detected as well. The flavour is equally sweet with loads of cloyingly sweet fruity malts. There is a nice drying hoppy finish. There are some sour and acidic flavours and toffee notes. The hop flavour isn’t as brash as I prefer it to be, but this isn’t an IPA so I will give it a break. The malt flavour is syrupy sweet and the mouthfeel is syrupy as well.

pours a rather large white head, fantastic dark sunset orange in color , slightly cloudy. Aroma contains strong tones of caramel and toffee, with subtle hints of fruit and malts. Flavor consists strongly of malts and acidic citrus hints .

Medium slightly cloudy orange pour - thick white head. Not an overpowering aroma - mostly caramels. Big carmelized malty body - almost a bit of that sour funky malt I’ve noticed in some 2xIPAs - but not as bad. More balanced between the caramel malts and the "right" hop. No distinct hop flavors hit you - just a nice, balanced bitterness.

12 oz. bottle with bottling date of April 29. Pours a dusty orange-amber with a chunky off-white head, subsiding to a surface coating which leaves some lace. Sweet, carmely aroma with some grassy/earthy and some citrusy hops, but not overbearing; on the contrary, the aroma is a bit muted. Flavor is a bit more hop-dominated, with the carmelly malts providing balance. The balance is on bittering hops (as it should be) and the finish is dry. There is a bit of an off, plastic/epoxy character coming through in both the aroma and flavor, but overall they are pleasant. Body is a bit light, carbonation is moderate, and there is virtually no alcohol to be felt or tasted. Decent beer and pretty true to being a larger ESB.

(Rating #1749)

Bottle courtesy Gillard. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma of floral and citrus hops with sweet malt. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Very good.

Thanks to jjpm74 for the bottle in trade!
Pours amber with a fluffy beige head. Smell is butterscotch, caramel malt and a light hop character. Taste is dougy, buttery and lightly hoppy with some light alcohol towards the finish. Decent. Somewhat ESB like, I suppose, but not sure if it was supposed to even be or not.

6-5-08 bottle
Medium orange red amber with a good solid white frothy head. Smell is light dough and slight malt with a touch of hops in there too. Flavor is doughy hops. The hops are present but not very well balanced. It needs a touch more sweetness. Nice, but I am just on the fence with this one.
