hombrepalo (745), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2009 2008 version, thanks to Alldaydrinker. Just couldn’t get into this one. A mess to me. Poured a murky brown, with dirty looking head. Smell was funky, malts and kinda reminded me of olives! yea olives! Taste is bold, carmel, molasses and smokey malts. Kinda ashy and a sour finish. Not so tasty. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Mar 23, 2009 22 oz bottle, 2008 edition. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown with a 1/2" tan head. Sweet malty nose with light spice. Smooth mouth feel with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet malt with some caramel & brown sugar & nougat. Tasty brew. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Mar 9, 2009 Fruity malt aroma with a mild sour yeast smell. Light hazy dark orange color with a small off white head. Sweet with light carbonation and a sour finish. SFLpunk (132), South Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 22, 2009 Brown 22oz bottle. 2008 release.
Appearance: Slightly cloudy tawny hue with orange notes around the edges. Head is slight with off-white bubbles gripping the edge of the glass, no lacing, and not much on the surface.
Nose: Roasted grain, toasted oak, raw sugar, chocolate caramel, and something hinting at toffee.
Palate: Soft carbonation, a creamy smooth texture. Right at the back, you can tell it’s a lager, has a little tiny bite right before the finish. Notes of caramelized sugar, toffee, and creme brulée. Clean finish.
Notes: A solid brew. You get what it says: Creamy Bock Lager. A bit creamy on the texture, a bit lager on the finish, and a perfect "session" winter/holiday ale. I appreciate that it’s not a spiced winter release. Cheers to Matt and René! Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Jan 10, 2009 Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells of dark fruit and sweet malt. Tastes spicy and sweet with a tarte finish. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Dec 31, 2008 2008 bottle. Deep brown beer. Thin head. Aroma is quite herbal and woody. Toasty and sweet. A bit of light amber malt. Sweet and a little bit spicy. Herbal and a bit toasty. Very strange and slightly oxidized. Weird brew. emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 17, 2008 Pours a clear reddish brown with a thin off white tan head and some streaked lacing along the sides of the glass. The nose is very phenolic with some roasted nuts. The flavor is very strong initially but fades rather quick. As it is in your mouth the flavors are robust but the booze is not well hidden and has a lot of sweet sugar and earthy hops all in your palate. Overall it is an alright brew and could use some more flavor and balance between hops and malt. Drink4Satan (585), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 17, 2008 Pours a translucent reddish brown colour with a medium beige head that fades to a ring. The nose is of caramel, old coffee, tobacco, roasted malt and cherry. Some booze and plastic notes come through as well, indicating to me that the flavour and body might be weak. My senses prove to be accurate, as the body is watery and the flavour is muted. There is clearly a good amount of crystal malt here, exemplifying that wintery flavour. There are some light fruity notes and very light toffee as well as some peppery spice up front with a bit of cherry. Some roasted malt comes through, but not nearly as much as the papery crystal malts. The finish is roasty, but thin and short lived. The carbonation is appropriately sharp for the thin body. Not for me.
