acrdz (4129), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2007 Proper cloudy and murky glowing yellow appearance, with some small globular sediment particles floating around under a firm, medium-sized bubbled white head. First impressions of the nose is a distinct cheese funk from the yeast, surprisingly moldy and funky, mixed with a fresh and vibrant banana and lemon citrus scent. Flavor is largely the same, with abundant banana and lemon yeast esters, moderately strong wheat, lightly sweet up front as well, while the cheese funk is held back, in contrast to the nose. Palate is slick and creamy, with a huge wheat character, very bready but light and silky on the tongue, and it’s almost gritty at times. A fairly good unfiltered wheat beer; very refreshing. argo0 (6018), Washington DC, USA Aug 20, 2006 Cloudy lemmon yellow body with thin but creamy white head. Aroma is medium sweet, banana, bubblegum, lemon, some clove. Taste is medium sweet, banana, some lemon, bubblegum. Watery light body, some creaminess, some crispness/acidity. jon112981 (324), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Aug 12, 2006 Tap at Bethesda. Cloudy yellow color. White lace on top, almost no head. Aroma is of bananas. Very light in body. Fruity taste with almost no finish. hopscotch (4379), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 2, 2006 Draft... Bethesda location... Murky, straw-colored ale with a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. Smoke, banana and clove esters and phenols dominate the aroma and flavor with some lemon and bubblegum notes evident in the flavor alone. Medium-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Citric, tangy finish. KUEric (551), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Aug 1, 2006 It is a cloudy yellow-copper-golden hazy color. Has a nice thin head that leaves little lilly pads along with a ring around throughout most of the beer. The aroma is light and sweet. Your typical banana, bubble gum, clove with an empahsis on this particular hefe on the clove and to a lesser degree the banana. The flavor was slightly more wheat than your standard american microbrew hefe but your typical bubblegum flavor and banana finish. Has a good little bite/kick of quick hitting flavor explosion followed by a mellow mundane flavor elsewhere. Its a good, not great hefe. Tastes like just about evey other hefe an american microbrewer ever makes. The style while enjoyable is eerily similar everytime you try it.
