Pailhead (2310), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Nov 6, 2006 Updated: Nov 7, 2006On tap: The aroma is very barley wine-ish and very little imperial stout. Caramel, banana bread, citrus hops, and bourbon all blend together nicely. Reddish-brown with a touch of transparency and a small beige head. Decent lacing. Much like the aroma, it’s the barley wine that takes precedence in the flavor. Caramel and banana bread up front with a hint of chocolate. Finishes with some subtle grapefruit hops and moderate grapefruit. While the bourbon is pretty strong in the finish, it blends relatively well. Philip (378), Illinois, USA Nov 5, 2006 FoBAB 2006. I’m not certain I get these kinds of blends. There’s a lot going on here, but not necessarily in the most pleasant way. Notes of fudge and toffee on the nose lead into more of the same on the palate. Some honey, strong vanilla, and lots of bourbon. MIBRomeo (1883), Wisconsin, USA Oct 2, 2006 cloudy brown pour small tan head. Nice fruits citrus hop aroma w/ hints of bourbon. palate is full well coated and creamy. Flavor is a nice blend of bourbon, carmels, and a citrus hop w/ a fairly dry finish. A decent beer. Quite vinous first sip but the body seemed thinned out, maybe by the barleywine? Long barrelling of this makes it very woody and strong. Yum! jaymobrown (1293), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 17, 2004 FOBAB 2004: Stout more than barleywine. Roasted, coffee, oak flavors. An interesting combination of flavors. Very strong alcohol at the end. Good.
