Cornfield (4343), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Oct 31, 2007 Seeing xnoxhatex’s rating go by had me digging through my notes, since I had a pint of this (and several other brews) my last visit. (I was taking the train, not driving!) It poured a black body, some mahogany showing around the edges, with a creamy tan head. The aroma was pretty much all deep roasted coffee with mayhaps a hint of dark malty sweetness. That’s how it tasted, too. It was kind of like drinking a thick iced coffee that delivered some kick in the finish. Not bad. Rock Bottom Chicago, Chicago, IL
xnoxhatex (791), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 29, 2007 On tap at rock bottom Chicago. Opaque black with tan head. Aroma is all espresso with not much else. Flavor is very coffee with some chocolate malt. Medium body with nice carb. Very coffee and according to waitress, no hops which were unapparent in taste as well. I liked it as much as I like a good cup of cold coffee... which is a lot mdm46410 (590), Griffith, Indiana, USA Oct 12, 2007 On tap at Rock Bottom Chicago, and served in a shaker. This porter poured a syrupy, dark brown, with a decent dark tan head that quickly faded into a thin layer of foam. The aroma of the beer consisted of bitter dark roast coffee, and a huge nose of roasted malts. The flavor was similar to the aroma, while also including some chocolate and caramel sneaking in at the finish. The mouthfeel was pretty substantial for a porter. It was chewy and medium to full-bodied with very light carbonation. This was a well done brew. If you love coffee, this is for you. Drnk_McDermott (1564), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Oct 10, 2007 Sampler at RB Chicago. three years of ratings for the Barrel-Aged Coffee Porter and this is the first we’ve found of the base beer. This probably means Pete has a barrel with him at GABF or maybe for FoBAB. This has a syrupy, Kahlúa smell. Thin brown foam on top makes it look just like an espresso shot. Sharp bite of strong coffee; no offsetting sweetness here. Still manages to leave room for some English hop bitterness. Even so, it drains very smoothly with no apologies, no regrets.
