Draught at Brewpub. Very heavy, nice appearance with thick long lasting head. Very flavorful, coffee, chocolate, reminds me of a much heavier version of Edmund Fitzgerald (not quite as good, though). Roasted malt and definitely some hops here.

Draft sample at Chicago brewpub. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate roasted coffee, chocolate malt and earthy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with another solid drinkable beer.

[2500-20090926] Tap. Smoky sweet roasted malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head and some lacing. Sweet dry-roasted malt flavour has mild chocolate, an odd vegetal note and a long roast chocolate finish. Full body is quite dry. Weird notes, mostly good.

Deep black beer with a sticky brown-tan head. The nose is herbal with a soft cocoaish/chocolatey character. Very soft silky palate, cocoa, bitter roasted dark chocolate. There is a bit of heavy bitterness toward the finish that is quite appealing. A rich and lovely stout. Herbal hoppiness as well. Chewy and earthy and quite lovely. Much more than the sum of its parts.

Tap at the Brewpub: Near black with a bit of light getting through at the edges and a dense khaki head that retains well. Rich roasted black malts in the aroma- nice malt depth displaying mocha character and an evident fresh resinous hoppy presence. Creamy body. A rich espresso roast flavor and chocolaty notes precede a fresh herbaceous resiny hop chewiness. A very done done and balanced hoppy stout. Nice and fresh tasting with rounded edges.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a very nice looking black with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is pretty darn hoppy for a sweet stout but that added a nice twist. Definite bit chocolate roasted malts and coffee. Nice dark fruitiness along with the piney hops pushing through. Flavor starts with a rich bitter chocolate character. Some roasted nuttiness and sweet chocolate come into play before finishing with another round of nice creamy bitter chocolate and molasses. Medium to full body and a soft carbonation. Really nice stout, the oatmeal made it a very good dessert beer after my meal. Complex but easy drinking and very rich.

From the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 13/10/2007 Fruity hop aroma. Beige head. Black strong in alcohol and fruity with some bitterness in a crisp and dry coffee roast finish.
