Commercial Description:
Brewed in the tradition of trappist monks, this authentic Dubbel incorporates special yeast, dark candi sugar, raisins and molasses to create a fruity and warming ale with many complex layers. Deep mahogany in color and huge in flavor, served in a goblet.

On tap at RB Chicago (was titled "Abbey Ale (with raisins and molasses)" on the beer menu), into a goblet. Murky brown beer with a ring of fuzzy yellow taupe as the only remains of the head. Smell is uber-sweet: fruitcake, molasses, reminiscent of barley wine. Sweet and full in the mouth, but not syrupy. Lively but soft carbonation. The gliding sugars remind me of Corsendonk maybe, or a fuller/grainier Rochefort. Finish is dry and dirty, a very nice counterpoint to the sugariness up front. As the glass warms, I pick up some banana and maybe some corn in the finish, which detracts a bit. Overall, it seems a bit muddled, but tasty.

(Draught) Pours a clear deep amber body with an average beige head. Aroma of raisins, plum, and molasses. Flavor of raisins, chocolate, brown sugar, plum, raisins, molasses, Belgian yeast, and light herbs.

On tap at GABF where this beer won a bronze medal. It is a solid dubbel. Medium reddish-brown color with a nice off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt and dark fruits. Flavor is nice, complex, and balanced, with sweet malt, brown sugar, plum, fig, raisin, and a touch of alcohol. Not too sweet, sticks pretty well to the style. Medium-full palate with soft carbonation.

Pours brown with almost no head. Served in a goblet. Sweet aroma of brown sugar, dark fruit, and yeast. Sweet flavor - alcohol was well hidden. Banana, raisins, and sugar in the flavor.

Pours a nice lightly hazed brown with moderate offwhite head. Aromas are nice brown sugar, belgian yeast, and a lighty fruitiness. Molasses, raisins, and yum. Initial is belgian, darker sugars, and light dark fruits. Taste is similar, dark malts, ugars, and fruity. Some banana, molasses, darker fruits, and light bitterness in the finish. Decent.

served in a goblet at RB Chicago...dark, semi-cloudy pour, raisin brown in nature with a wispy off-white head... dark fruit and sweet malty aroma..as flavors go banana and dark fruit with a little booze in the finish. medium carbonation and adequate mouthfeel. decent interpretation of the dubbel style.
