tiggmtl (4148), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 7, 2005 Thick, chewy, caramel malt aroma with some notes of toffee and some herbal, floral hops apparent. Opaque, brown body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, tan head that lasts well. Caramel and toffee malt character is joined by raisin-like fruitiness with light finishing bitterness. Medium light body with moderate, soft carbonation. Sampled on tap at Rock Bottom Denver with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere. MrRomero (1865), Wiesbaden-Biebrich, Germany Oct 14, 2005 GABF Weekend at the brewery: poured dark orange with a small white head. Mild fruity scent of orange. Mild maltiness in the flavor with a touch of hops and light fruit. Mild hairsprasy. Decent. DavidP (1695), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Oct 3, 2005 Tap @ pub, same one BBB had. The sign said this was dry-hopped w/ Phoenix. Hazy amber body with a white nitro head. Malty aroma w/ strawberries and grain husk. Husks in the start of the flavor along with light-caramel malt. Dusty, astringent aftertaste. BBB63 (3672), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 2, 2005 On tap at Denver, (day 2 Pre-GABF):
I am placing this here since there is no other listing for an ESB at this location. It was cask-conditioned.
Hazy amber hue with a long lasting head and good lacing. The aroma has notes of apple and pear esters, floral hops (Fuggles I think), very aromatic and heathery. A smooth bitterness is balanced by a caramel and crystal malt sweetness. A touch twangy and fruity on the finish. It is not too bad and very quaffable, I could pound down a few pints of this over lunch.
