JMerritt (1096), Macomb, Illinois, USA Oct 3, 2005 On tap at the Denver location when in town for GABF 2005. I admit, part of the reason I wanted to try this was so I could tell the waitress that I wanted a Lil Dickens Cider. Golden amber in color with a small head. Alcoholic green pear aroma. Semi-sweet, very alcoholic, with the alcohol drowning out what little pear flavor there is. Rather abrasive on the palate. Ernest (4173), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 4, 2005 Draught, Rock Bottom Denver.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting.
Body is hazy dark yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty [???] (cookie, caramel), with notes of DMS and mint, hint of apple.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Light to medium body, velvety texture, soft carbonation.
This thing doesn’t look (thick long-lasting head? wtf?! looks great but never have seen a cider with such a beer-like head before) or smell/taste like a cider exactly...it’s more like a light ale with a little bit of apple juice added. Odd and not something I’d drink again.
