Cybercat (364), USA Jul 1, 2008 Pours a rich dark semi-transparent brown with a beige head. Aroma is strong and malty and has hints of caramel and coffee, almost like a stout or porter. Flavor is malty with some hops and a strong caramel component and more than a trace of smokiness. Texture is smooth but sassy. beastiefan2k (1039), Hicksville, New York, USA Mar 1, 2008 The beer pours dark brown with a sticky head. Aroma is very earthy, with a roasty, toasty feel. Roast becomes more evident, becomes fumy, espresso - Not overwhelming, but perfectly present. Taste is a bit watered down compared to the aroma. It’s lightly bitter with slightly sweet bark and a bit watery aftertaste. Sampler at Denver international Airport location. Braudog (3461), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Feb 26, 2008 Draft at RB-Denver. Deep brown color with a very rich roasty malt ball of a character. Malt, malt, malt. Roasted malt, sweet caramel. (#3337, 2/21/2008) T2Tool (248), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Oct 15, 2007 Had on tap in Denver. Poured a light brown color with faint aroma. Decent, but not spectacular taste of roasted and nutty malts. BeerBelcher (694), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Oct 11, 2007 I thought this was a pretty decent but not remarkable brown ale. It poured a decent hazy brown with good head formation. Aroma was very mild, and was of caramel malt. It tasted...well like a brown ale. It was a nice example of the style and approachable for the casual drinker. After reading the official GABF style descriptions, I can undertand why this beer won in the "brown porter" category rather than the "brown ale" category. It had a full mouthfeel, some caramel presence, and some diacetyl. Reminded me of a brown milk stout. Pretty good.
I had this on-tap at the Rock Bottom in Denver.
