PhillyBeer2112 (1842), Orange Park, Florida, USA Mar 1, 2004 Updated: Mar 8, 2004Bottle, 55 deg F. English nonic pint glass. Deep garnet with full foaming beige head. Aromatic cocoa, light roasted malt, pecan pie. Nice. Soft mouthfeel, caramelly sweet but well restrained by a moderate hoppy finish. Light palate and finish. Lingering dry chocolate malt in the aftertaste. A very nice English style session brown ale, really really nice. Cybercat (400), USA Jul 1, 2008 Pours a rich dark semi-transparent brown with a beige head. Aroma is strong and malty and has hints of caramel and coffee, almost like a stout or porter. Flavor is malty with some hops and a strong caramel component and more than a trace of smokiness. Texture is smooth but sassy. erway (1001), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA May 3, 2004 On Cask (And I might add that the publican knew what he was doing too): Pours about 80 SRM. Deep brown with a nice beige head. Aroma of brown, chocolate, and dark crystal malts with just a hint of fuggles. Nice amount of CO2. Very good mouthfeel. Roasty and toasty. They list this as a brown porter. bbrock81 (179), Le Mars, Iowa, USA Jan 15, 2003 Decent Brown Ale, fairly malty, kind of thin though, not bad but not that good. Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 2, 2006 Cask at the Brewpub. Roasty and chocolate accented aroma. Reddish brown with a firm thumb thick tan head. Solid hop profile runs through all ranges...very roast accented as well wwhich plays on the hops. some malt chocolate notes. Kinda tastes like a brown porter/pale ale cross. I rather liked it and I think these RB Denver beers get a bit of a bad rap.
