mephisto (1099), Taiwan Aug 20, 2008 boring and forgetable brew. contains alcohol, hard to drink, not much else to talk about. The_Beer_God (2838), Newport News, Virginia, USA Oct 8, 2006 Draft at Rock Bottom Denver. Dark brown but translucent. Delicate tan head with larger bubbles. Nose unfortunately is all bourbon and wood. I can’t smell anything else. Taste is a bit more even. Bourbon, vanilla, light raspberry tartness and some sweet malt notes. There’s also a light candyish flavor as well. Body is a bit on the thin side. Still smooth though. Finishes with more bourbon, vanilla, wood, and soft fruit flavors. OK but I wish the beer came out a bit more. Ernest (4227), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 4, 2006 Draught at the downtown Denver brewpub.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is medium brown.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, cookie), with notes of bourbon, raw wood, alcohol (some fusel), and a hint of berries.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Have to wonder if the 6.5% ABV listed here is correct or not, as the alcohol is quite prominent in both nose and finish. The bourbon and wood notes are quite strong, and there isn’t enough else there to save it for me. Very sweet. Not too enjoyable overall, but bourbon lovers may like it. Dark coloured and strong in alcohol with a fruity aroma. Some bitterness and dryness in a whisky flavour finish. tiggmtl (4181), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 7, 2005 Biscuity but boozey and very sweet, raspberry coulis and chocolate in the aroma. Dark brown body with ruby highlights is topped by a low but lasting, fine bubbled (nitro), off white head that recedes slowly to a partial cover and ring. Raspberry jamlike sweetness is apparent in the stale, cardboard flavour with some roastiness in the finish. Alcohol is apparent throughout. Medium body with soft carbonation and a creamy, smooth texture is moderately warming. Sampled on tap at Rock Bottom Denver with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.
