I’ve had this on tap before, but review for the first time with a growler. Hazed p[ale yellow coloration, small, diminishing head. Aroma leaps out, big banana, but I’ve yet to bring it up to the nose... citrus foremost, orange, lemon, then banana, a meringue merengue, smooth and creamy, little spice or hops. Very pleasant, if placid, on the tongue. Medium-bodied, good flavor, but, a bit too blase’, if I may. An easily drinkable weizen, sure to please many a palate among the Rock Bottom throngs. Anyone looking for more will find this rather run of the mill. Flavor is consistent, though, if on the mundane side...carries though the pint, which is more than I can say about other weizens I’ve met. A passable brew for summertime.

Pours a cloudy hazy light straw color, with maybe a half inch of white head. Head recedes into nothingness in short order. A little bit of clove in the aroma, nothing else. I found the taste to be sharper and drier than I expected, and again, clove. I am not big clove fan, and while I know it should be there, there should be some other stuff in there to round it out too. No banana, no bubblegum, no wheat, no yeast.

Light yellow and cloudy. Low carbonation. Crisp, light, and refreshing, almost a kristalweizen. On the sour side overall, with lots of citrus flavor. Some coriander and a little sweet wheat flavor. Thin body. Sampled at the Minneapolis location.

On tap at the KOP location. Pours a hazy golden amber with an average creamy white lacing head. Aroma of sweet and roasty malts, wheat and citrus. Flavor of wheat, various grains, some citrus, toasty malts and cereal.

Pint On Tap: Looks like your standard hefe. Aroma is also of astandard hefe: bananas, clove, but a touch more spices than average. The palate was short and quick hitting. The flavor was good, even a little bit of vanilla in there, maybe a touch of lime to go along with lemon, banana, clove, cinnamon, bread, bubblgum, etc.

Tap. Aroma had a real good vanilla and clove presence. Banana was also detectable. Darker shade of yellow with white head. No lemon seved with this one. Had good flavors of banana, bubblegum and some lime and lemon. Good refreshing beer.

El Hefe pours to a hazy deep golden color with a vibrant carbonation and a thick and creamy white head. The nose on this beer is loaded with aromas of banana, clove, estery fruit and tart wheat character. The palate is firm with lots of wheaty malt flavor paired with estery flavors of pear and spicy clove. El Hefe ends with more tart wheat, and estery fruit up front, and ends with some nice spicy clove and banana yeasty flavor that lingers. This is a very authentic, very delicious, very drinkable domestic version of Bavarian Hefeweizen from a very capable brewpub chain that knows how to brew great beer. This beer is perfect for a hot climate such as Arizona, and El Hefe makes for a local favorite. Look for this beer at the Rock Bottom Scottsdale location, or other local Rock Bottom locations.
