Oct 16, 2005 Sample, at the Chicago location. Nearly opaque maple-bronze...caramel-herbal nose, perhaps maple and sourdough...lots of dry bitter herbal qualities on the tongue, grapefruity Cascades, underlying pale malt gives just enough body...clean, dry finish that seemed, oddly, to show hints of amaretto. Compulsively drinkable.

Oct 1, 2005 Chicago location. This beer pours to a lightly hazy red/brown body with a white head and good lacing. The aroma is malty maple syrup and cascade hops. The flavor is a roasted/toasted malt with lemongrass and Centennial hops. Kina like lemoned iced tea. Lots of fresh hops. The palate is bitter yet refreshing. Nice!

Sep 26, 2005 Chicago. Translucent caramel brown with a lovely, lasting creamy tan head. Honey, caramel, rye, toffee and subtle hoppy goodness in the nose. Sweet liquefied nuts flavor. Does a damn good dance of how to do an amber right. Well-balanced. IBUs are not searing or laden with too much sprits. It’s a simple thing to ask, but it’s so rare to achieve. Medium-bodied and slick on the palate. A good session beer.

Bright, fruity aroma, rosy and sweet, hints of nut...
...which follows through in the taste, but dark fruits are tops. Apple, melon, grape. Tasty hops dancing on the tongue, a tidy tango, slides off easily. Big, juicy fruit. Medium bodied, clean, efffortlessly easy to zip past your lips.
A pleasantly agreeable, light and tasty lager. Can’t go wrong here.

Aug 15, 2005 Updated: Sep 26, 2005Draught. Had a few of these at the Rock Bottom in downtown Chicago. Pretty nice red with nice malty flavor. Deep amber red color. Really a smooth beer and enjoyable for a hot as hell summer evening on the rooftop bar. I just have to wonder if every waiter in Chicago is gay. It sure seems that way. Fast service, though...

Jun 10, 2005 Copper-colored with an off-white film and good lace, this "Red" gave off mild grapefruit aromas. Dry-hopped with a moderate bitter flavor and a decent citrus ending. Soft and oily mouthfeel. Bartender compared this to Killian’s, but Erik the Red is a step up.

Jun 3, 2005 Crimson with a white head. Not bad looking. Bitter with nothing really going for it. Lots of carbonation, too much. Ok, but was expecting more. Rock Bottom has never impressed me though.

Jun 2, 2005 At RB Chicago: Rusty orange/red with a sticky head. Sharp bitter hoppiness over the top of a tart caramel malt base. Nice.
