On tap at RB Long Beach. Color was a black/dark brown. Not much head. ARoma of roasted malt, coffee and earthy. Flavor was very roasted with alot of coffee. Dry and earthy, and smoother than expected. Probably the best beer here.

on draft at brewery, consumed on 11/12/07. Very dark brown/black. No active carbonation. Smells of roasted malt, coffee. Thin in mouth. Frontloaded flavor: initial quick bite of bitter roasted malts fades into nothing fast. No hops to balance, no lingering bitterness, no astringency. Half a stout.

Anybody who reads my ratings knows that it’s nearly impossible for me not to love anything with chocolate malt. This is like a stout plus. Somewhere between a watery Irish and an alcoholey Russian Imperial, with chocolate maltiness reminiscent of some of my favorite porters. At the end of the sampler, nice and warm, it’s like butter to me.

Pour was a super dark brown with a nice, creamy off-white head that was two-fingers tall and produced ample lacing. The aroma was roasted coffee and malt. Some sweet sugary notes as well. The flavor was an above average mix of smoke, roasted coffee and muted chocolate. Decent finish. The relatively thin mouthfeel made it not feel so heavy. Quite drinkable in fact.

Very dark body and a light creamy head, light sweet malty aroma, and flavor is smooth and chocolatey, pretty good beer to have there with a dish.

(Cask)

The beer as it vacates the cask and pitch black, the head personable in size and the color a nice tan, consistency creamy and as it evaporates the lace forms a tight blanket to cover the glass. Nose is sweet milk chocolate, fresh and pleasing, hints of toasted grain and vanilla, start is ambrosial, nicely malted with the top middling in its feel. Finish is good-natured in its acidity, the hops considerate in their spiciness, the aftertaste bittersweet and dry, and a very nice middle-of-the-road stout, one that I found quite enjoyable.

Black body with minimal head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, roasty. Taste is fairly sweet, chocolate, finishing with some roasty coffee bitterness. Minimal carbonation, medium body. The bartender said that it's served on Nitro, but that it was "screwed up."
