ElGaucho (1719), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 26, 2008 Draft at Winterfest 2008, St. Paul, MN. Hoppy and sweet aroma that is also a little salty (not so crazy about the aroma). Hazy gold body with no visible carbonation. Off-white, large bubble head with some creaminess to it. Excellent lace. Plenty of flavor. Sweet; has some orange peel hints. There’s an off flavor in the finish. Not my favorite, but the orange peel/coriander thing is unique. A poor man’s Mendocino White Hawk IPA. It’s rare that I’m so far below the average rating for a beer, despite the fact that there aren’t that many ratings. I might have to walk over and give this one another try if it’s still pouring.
BDR (1846), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Feb 22, 2008 Winterfest 2008. A nice hoppy IPA. Massive citrus hop aroma with a little malt character. Not too sweet on the body and plenty of hops there as well. Skyview (2641), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Feb 13, 2008 On draught during the Winterfest 2008 in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Pours a semi-hazy golden orange brew with a thick off-white head that has some good retention and lacing. Aroma of heavy grapefruit juice and zest, light bread-like malt with even some orange zest. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation and a grapefruit flavor that’ll curl your tongue. Finish is definitely a west-coast caliper IPA, bitter and semi-sweet, along with more grapefruit aftertaste that just barely goes away. tennisjoel (677), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Feb 10, 2008 Winterfest 2008
This was a nice surprise. Normally I’m not too impressed with Rock Bottom brews, but this beer had a great aroma, similar to Surly Furious. Flavor is heavy grapefruit hops, with some orange peel as well. Slightly subdued flavor as compared to the aroma, but easy drinking and nice on the palate. A nice surprise!
