ubamartian (151), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA Nov 1, 2007 Draught Minneapolis. Pours dark brown with a deep cookie colored head, disappears quickly. Mild lacing evident. Aroma of choc, and raisins. First sip is chocolate, mild raisin, and cocoa blended very well. Finish is a superb lightly chocolate and sweet light alchohol flavor, which lingers but not too long. Feelijng is smooth and well balanced, not watery and not too bubbly. Definately a good brew. detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 11, 2007 Murky medium brown color, but I know it is much clearer at the pub. About a half an inch of cream colored foam. The head left this grainy-textured foam residue behind as I polished off the glass. I don’t know what causes that - some of my homebrews do it too - but I don’t recall seeing it in any commercial brews. Neutral aroma not very prevalent, unfortunately.
Smoooth malt profile with some subtle roasted chestnut flavor and bitterness in there too. Perhaps I am only tasting what I remember from that December dinner, but I don’t think so. A bit of sugary malt. Make that brown sugary.
1FastSTi (2423), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jun 25, 2007 Cask at Minneapolis location. Pours to a clean vibrant flat body that’s a glowing mahogany. The aroma is nutty with walnuts and peanuts. Very good for a brown ale. Subtle and blended. The flavor is very nutty with walnuts, pecans, Brazil nuts, and peanuts. Brown malts. The palate is rich and nutty. The bitterness is subtle but noticeable. Creamy. One of the better browns I’ve had. aobecksy (648), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA Jun 27, 2007 Excelent Brown Ale. Cherry color, Creamy head, Roasted Nutty taste. Smooth finsh, tastes better with warming. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2006 Minneapolis. Translucent and ruddy brown in color with a dirty mahogany tint and cherry plumes at times. Outsourced tan galaxy wisps remain for the head. Aroma is quite the sweet treat – cocoa mix and brownie batter ring truest while a milk chocolate trait provides a reliable base. Caramel ripples weave through the Belgian chocolate while caramelized chocolate crème brûlée is encouragingly enigmatic. Nutty chocolate flavor comes out with a flavor profile that many similar renditions should aim to replicate. Creamy, liquid nutella gives a chocolate covered hazelnut flavor. Not forceful, just well executed and balanced. Supportive carbonation matches the honey nut bark, wrapped in chocolate and bridging the gap between Score bars and Heath bars. Caramelized toffee bark and an unfinished cedar wood smoothness aid the ale. Medium-bodied with a well-balanced initiation, finishing with such a comforting cocoa dusted nuttiness. This one would be a great gateway beer for the non-craft beer community.
