grimreeser (738), Minnesota, USA Feb 1, 2008 On tap. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Nice balanced sweetness. Hard to believe it is 9 percent. undsioux7 (505), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Jan 29, 2008 Updated: Feb 14, 2008Pours black with nice mocha head. Aroma of roasted malt and some chocolate. Taste is roughly the same with a bit of burnt malt. It feels a little thin, but overall is a nice one. detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 11, 2007 Pours out thick and inky, very dark brown - nearly black - with an inch of brown foam. The head dies back in a minute or so to a thin layer of fizz and a ring. Moderate, very thin-bubbled webby lacing throughout the glass. I smell sweet chocolate and roasted malt in the aroma.
The beer starts with a full roasted malt flavor, with lots of bitter chocolate, burnt raisin, and a bit of elderberry. It finishes with dry grain, mild sambuca, and a touch of alcohol. This full bodied brew is softly carbonated. Brewed with Pale, Caramel, Chocolate, Black and Roast malt. Hopped with Nuggets. "Stubby" was made from the second runnings of this beer. robertsreality (2462), Minnesota, USA Jan 18, 2005 Black Coloring with Small Tan Head. Rich Malts..Roasts and Chocolate Aroma and Flavor...Very Nice and Balanced...Good Alcohol Presence But Well Hid for 10.8% Quite Possibly One of the Better Rock Bottom Brews I’ve Had. badgerben (3160), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jan 9, 2005 On tap in Minneapolis. Black color with a thin head. Small aroma of raspberries. Fair malt taste with some more berry flavor, but not as much hit as one would expect from an Impy. Does NOT taste like it has 10.8%. Not bad.
