Pigfoot (2225), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 25, 2007 Dark brown with ruby sides, smallish head.
Earthy, coffeeish aroma...bittersweet and roasty, like an good porter ought to be...
Taste: more bittersweet and roast, plus espresso tinges...nice, but not too full, not too thick, very mellow, great flavor. Supreme drinkability. Dry and nutty finish. Full body, yet quite approachable. Great balance, smooth, smooth. A nice bridge between a supple, simple brown ale and a heartier, beefier porter.
Well done, Bryon...I’d have this again anytime. Luckily, I still have the rest of this growler...
detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 11, 2007 Pours a deep dark brown, topped by half an inch of tan foam. Decent head retention and lacing. Chocolate and sweet malt in the aroma, though mild on both accounts.
Smooth semi-sweet chocolate and dark (but non-bitter) dry malt. Nice balance. Medium body, generous carbonation. Tasty middle of the road beer. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2006 Minneapolis. Translucent when put to light, displaying a deep, honey lacquered brown body with a tan wraith like wrung surrounding the glass. Aroma indicates a chocolate induced testament. Caramelized chocolate plucked from the simmering saucepan, glazed chocolate on chocolate donuts and spatula licks of brownie batter. Tiny notes of cardboard digress the nose, but it’s the nature of the beast and doesn’t work against it. Robust and dry mocha bitterness proceeds for flavor. Liquid chocolate coolers ring with a promising summer quench aptitude. Phenomenally balanced with gentle carbonation letting the bittersweet chocolate play out. Coffee coolers on all accords are well melded with the perfect amount of mocha cocoa sweetness. Mild bitterness rings out semi-sweet morsels at the outtake.
