detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 11, 2007 Pours a healthy black - you could almost call it a very deep purple, topped by an inch or so of fluffy white foam. Pretty good head retention and spotty lacing. Tart and tangy aroma - with fruit tart cherry and fig more so than cranberry - along with a bit of roasted malt. Fruit comes through in the flavor, with cranberry being the leading, but not the only fruit flavor. I also detect blackberry, gooseberry, and fig. Actually, the fruitdominates the flavor, but the texture is a creamy milk stout. Tart, not-quite-acidic cranberry lingers in the aftertaste. Perfect carbonation. ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 3, 2004 St. Paul Winterfest 2004. Can’t really smell it. What I can smell isn’t pleasant. Appearance is fully opaque black. Thick white head. Pretty good head retention. Really sour. Lactose. Overly carbonated. Bloody awful. Very hard to drink. aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 15, 2002 Hints of cranberry, compliemnts the stout flavor nicely. The milkiness comes out in the finish, it’s the only real weakness of the beer. Would be great with a nice slice of cake.
