Now this is nice! (after having lots of bad beers at Rock Bottom) Really solid flavors--raisin jumps out at me, but also plum, vanilla, caramel. Longish finish, smooth without being as sticky as some Scottish ales. (on tap, Rock Bottom, downtown Chicago, IL)

On tap at the Rock Bottom in KoP. Poured a dark reddish brown color with a smaller off white head. Aromas and tastes of malts and fruits. Caramel and toffee. Between this and the Oatmeal stout I had there today, I may have to revist my thinking behind Rock Bottom’s beers.

Dark chestnut with a thick, dense tan head. The aroma is sweet and malty with brown sugar, toffee, chocolate, toasted grains, raisins and a bit of alcohol. The body is moderately hefty with a softness that caresses the tongue. The flavor is pretty nice and starts sweet, allowing the varied layers of malt to interact before the introduction of the hops at the end which provide a balancing bitterness. The finish is long and warming. Quite enjoyable and a satisfying beer for the first freeze of the season.

Aroma is a roasted malt scent. Color is a deep solid brown with a very thick tight head. It starts with a full/medium body that goes down with a rich feel. finish is a deep, rich roasted flavor that turns a bit sweet and ends with a mild bitterness. After taste is the roasted malt flavor fading out slowly. This is a very good Scottish Ale and one of the better ones I can remember having.

Draft: Prune with garnet highlights...minimal head, but that didn’t seem to diminish the strong berry, alcohol and roasted cherry aroma. Thick, juicy raisins on the palate with lightly bitter honey, a small hop flavour and a soothing alcohol finish. Very enjoyable.

Sampled a cask version at the Milwaukee location. It pours to a dark chestnut/mahogany body with a thin white head. The flavor is sweet but not overly done powdered sugar, lightly peated barley, subtle red apple skins, light Dingemann’s pale malt. There is a subtle bourbonish quality. The aroma is much like the flavor with powdered sugar, red apple skins, interesting malt profile. The palate is sticky, non-carbonated, easy velvety feel. A very nice brew. Not overly outstandingly unique, but very well made.

Growler from my friend Beervirgin72 - Thanks Dawn!! - Pours cloudy brown with a short offwhite head that fades quickly to a slight film but doesn’t leave much lace. Aromas of caramel, nuts, some toffee, and slight bannana. Flavor is malty with lots of caramel, nuts, toffee, and some peat. Some smokiness there too, some raisin notes can be found throughout as well. Finish is slightly dry. Good medium body with a somewhat watery palate but a good smooth mouthfeel. Solid brew really. Quite enjoyable..
