Commercial Description:
We’re proud to present American Dream Ale, our unique West Coast IPA, in honor of our Pittsburgh beerdrinters. We picked the finest hops from Washington’s Yakima Valley to give this historic pale ale a decidedly American twist. Floral, citrus and pine character burst from the Yakima hops to mix with the crisp, slightly dry malt flavor for a never bitter ale even the snobbiest limey would love.

Enjoyed via tap at the brewpub. The beer pours a medium golden color with a small white head. The aroma brings some notes of west coast hops, but not nearly to the level of hop aroma wrought by the best examples of the style. At the same time, the level of hop bitterness also fails to match excellent west coast IPAs. The beer does present a malt backbone to the extent that one almost would mistake it for an English IPA. Overall, not a bad example, but it does fall short of greatness.

Sampled on 6/7/08, I originally had this under the corporate headquarters listing. Finally a Rock Bottom recipe that is universal Rock Bottom. Had this at the PGH location. Floral hoppy perfumy aroma. Looks like any other ubiquitous pale lager expect for the creamy head. On the tongue, it starts out smooth and fruity then it is an onslaught of hops as the swig progresses. Finish is typical IPA or DPA. Lingering bitter and yes this is a decent IPA.

Light gold. Good whack of dry hops in the flavor and aroma for a mild west coast jaunt. Sprucy. Hopeads, move on. Fair, uninspiring.
