Aurelius (2507), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2008 This was the best beer here, but that wasn’t saying much. Floral malt aroma. Dark rootbeer brown, thin lace head. Roast, a little molasses, a little coffee. Dry, nutty chickory. Slightly starchy mouthfeel with a medium body. Fairly well done.
zebracakes (999), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 29, 2007 On cask at the brewery. This is dubbed "Cuyahoga River Water". Opaque medium brown ruby, creamy off white head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, toffee, caramel, apricot. Flavor is less complex and is molasses, chocolate, malt, bitter. cheapdark (1597), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2007 On tap at the Rock Bottom in Pittsburgh. Nice big creamy head like chocolate mousse. Great to look at. Not quiteopaque but almost. Very lovely appearance. Creamy aroma of whipped cream! Makes me attracted to this brew before I even taste it. Some roasted stout or porter attributes in the flavor. Stronger than the other rock bottom brews I’ve had. Has a slight alky bite to it that is absent in their other beers. Good example of a dark beer, dark in taste but not offensive. Friendly yet impressive. Good beer. Much better than Saranac Brown ale and is almost as good as east end fat gary. This is much darker than most other brown ales I’ve tasted. Not too sure if this is in the correct style. SJP (483), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 11, 2007 Dark brown, thin white head. Smelt of oats, floral hops and sweet caramel. thin, watery mouthfeel, but a nice smooth, nutty flavor with a mild hops profile. Not too bad, but nothing stellar. SB (290), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 10, 2006 Growler
Poured dark brownish, with small bubbly white heard. Aroma of malt, nuts, and caramal. Flavor mostly same, malt, hints of caramal and nuts, and a slight hop bite in the aftertaste. Carbonation was good. Brew easy to drink, but the body is watery.
