Aurelius (2447), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2008 Medium dark clear brown. Toasted aroma. Acidic, light roast, woody bitterness, especially in the finish. Neutered and a little amateurish.
cheapdark (1547), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2008 I originally filed this under the North Star Amber for the Rock Bottom Corporate Headquarters. Tasted on 6/7/08. On tap at the Rock Bottom in Pittsburgh. Light brownish scotch ale appearance, like darker ginger ale perhaps. Looks very attractive. Decent sized head. Smell has honey hints in the aroma. Earthy light roasty initial flavor and I think I detect some chocolate in there too. Pretty interesting and fun. Well behaved. Thisis possibly a good alternative session brew, seems to be a low alky content. Ever so slight malt bitterness but it is non offensive and is very easy to enjoy this brew. I like this one, one of my faves at the Rock. Happy and easy to like. Overall, one of the better amber ales I’ve tasted. Much better than Sam Adams Boston ale and Thirsty Dog Hoppus Maximus. IMHO one of the better tasting amber ales I’ve tasted to date.
