Location: I venture into the Rock Bottom Bethesda every now and again because it is so close, this is one of their standard offerings, and I’ve had it a few times on tap

Overall Impression: Probably one of the more boring Stouts out there, it’s thin and boring, not terrible, just dull.

On tap at Bethesda location. Black in color with a tan nitro head. Roasty aroma. Flavor is roasted malt and coffee. Dry on the palate and a little lighter than I’d like.

From draught sample at Bethesda. Light chocolate and roasted malt, a bit of coffee and some lactose character. Dry stout tang. Dark brown-black clear with thin tan head. Medium body with smooth nitro carbonation. Starts dry with light roasted malt, a bit of chocolate, and some licorice. Carbonic acidity and a light hop bitter finish. Fairly smooth after with nutty character.

On nitrogen tap in Bethesda. Sold beer, dark with a chocolaty head. Solid aroma of lightly roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is smooth and moderately sweet, some tones of chocolate, a bit of roastedness. Finishes with a touch of bitterness. The nitrogen suits it well, a smooth, solid beer. Nothing remarkable but very drinkable. Its somewhat boring, but still good.

From the nitro tap at RB Milwaukee, in a plastic shaker (for shame). Looks like a stout should, smells tasty, and tastes very good. This is a stronger stout than a dry Irish stout -- almost an Impy; it’s a coffeer (is that a word?) stout than most coffee stouts I’ve had. Only got better with warmth and age.

Bethesda. Dark brown body with a small, nitro, tan head. The aroma is light roast, some chocolate. The flavor is fairly dry, roast, chocolate and watery coffee. Medium body is thin with the typical nitro texture.

On draft; looked the part, but the palate was really weak. Not creamy and almost watery. Flavor was good, but lacking complexity and great flavors. Mostly chocolate and roasted malt.

On tap (sampler) at the Bethesda location, July 2006. Vary dark colour - almost black and nearly opaque, with a thin beige head. Lots of chocolate in the aroma. More creamy chocolate in the flavour, with developing coffee notes and a dry, roasty malt backbone. Mouthfeel is on the light side but, overall, I thought it was a tasty and enjoyable brew.
