On tap at brewery-A dark brown almost black beer with a nice tan head. Aroma of chai and licorice. Taste of chai, whiskey, and alcohol. A different beer with a different taste.

Didn’t catch any chai tea in this even after it warmed from the BMC freezing temperatures that they serve brews at at this Warrenville, IL, brewpub. They’re calling it a Porter this year and listing the ABV at 7.5% rather than the posted 5.1%. The aroma is a blend of my Aunt Hilda’s Christmas gingerbread cookies and my Aunt Gertrude’s fruitcakes... spiced up all too expectantly. Some dark caramel, chocolate, and lightly roasted malt are added to the flavor, thankfully. The finish is sweet and seasonal. Joy joy.

Rock Bottom Warrenville, Warrenville, IL
On tap at the Warrenville location. My favorite of the visit, the diamond in the rough, so to speak. Very dark red in color with a thin, off-white head. Nutmeg, cloves, all-spice, Christmas candle (gingerbread?), and tea leaf aroma. Spicy flavor, lots of nutmeg, chai tea, bittersweet cocoa, and slight resinous hops. Rather complex. I was glad to have visited the Rock Bottom only a few days after their tapping of this winter brew.
