Sampler. Dark Scots brown, with a thin ring of foam. Surprisingly light on bourbon smell or taste. Starts with fine, smooth dark malts, with a modicum of bitterness. Some bourbon poached malts do settle in after the first few sips. Not overdone on any component, and that’s not easy with a bourbon barrel beer. Instead, a fine, mellow dark ale.

Dark amber pour with tan head. Aroma of strong bourbon, fruits. Flavor is bourbony, chewy, sweet goodness. Pretty nice mouthfeel though a bit light. I’m digging this barrel stuff they’ve got going on at RockBottom Yorkville.

On tap at the brewpub: It poured a deep reddish brown with the slenderest of heads and neglected to leave any lace. The aroma was strong with Bourbon, hard wood, dark fruit, a splash of vanilla extract, and chewy dark malt. Fortunately, the flavor reflected the nose most accurately, making this a very tasty sipper. Another fine job by brewmaster... by... by... I always seem to forget Tim’s name when he forgets to buys me a drink.....

Sampled at FoBAB 2009. Pours a nice burnt caramel, small whitish head, near opaque. Murky. Aromas are dark fruit and raisin, a bit of bourbon but heavy dark fruit and caramel, a bit syrupy. Initial is thick, creamy, dark fruits come in good, with lighter bourbon, wet wood, vanilla, this is prettyu heavy sweetness, as the warmth hits you very far back. Light. A bit peaty, but heavy dark fruit and toffee. Light bourbon.
