kseecs16 (601), Westmont, Illinois, USA Jul 10, 2008 Pitch black stout like, quite roasty aroma. Creamy tan head. Very tasty, cloves, chocolate, char and roast. Much darker and more burnt malt than an average dunkel but it is nice.
37steel (186), St. Charles, Illinois, USA Jul 9, 2008 On draft at the pub. Dark brown almost black with a light, almost white head. Banana and cloves in the aroma. Strong german hefe yeast flavors. Very clean, smooth and easy drinking. Great session type beer. FlssmrBrewAlum (316), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Jul 3, 2008 Poured on tap at Yorktown, Pours an impressive deep dark roasted brown with decent tan head. Dark malts and banana clove dominate the scent and taste, with the mixture being usually good. However, the dark malts overpower the banana of the wheat in some ways, leaving a negative effect on me. Strong notes of toffee and chocolate with roaste malts are the brews main points. Finishes a bit bitter from the dark malts. A decent brew, but not my favorite dunkelweizen by a lot. ElGaucho (1726), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 2, 2007 Growler from brewpub; consumed within an hour of pouring. RB Yorktown would only sell growlers of either this brew or the Hogshead bitter. After sampling the Drunkelweizen, I decided it was good enough to invest in a whole growler. Glad I did. I like the yeast strain they used; it’s similar in flavor to some outstanding weissbiers made by the Townhall Brewery in Minneapolis. That strain is evident in the nose. Fully opaque body. Banana esters are subtle. Creamy, smooth. An excellent dunkel and a remarkable amount of flavor for a 4.3% ABV beer. Cornfield (4412), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 29, 2007 Looks good in the mug that I had warmed up for me, a dark, dark mahogany with a tall, pale tan head that lasted and coated the glass with intricate lacing. It’s got an aroma of slightly burned banana bread with clove and other spices. Smooth. The clove steps forward in the flavor and a soft taste of bittersweet chocolate and nuts is added. Mildly bitter finish. Nice job, Tim.

Rock Bottom Yorktown, Lombard, IL
