hopscotch (4591), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 7, 2008 Draft... DLD’08... Pitch black with a small, light brown head. The aroma is of dark grains, coffee, leather/rawhide and an undertone of pine. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Burnt and bitter with low sweetness. Lengthy, coffee ground and cocoa powder, dry finish. Not quite enough residual sugar, but still nice.
Walt (2287), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 15, 2008 Pour is black with a thin sticky tan head...smell is roasty with LOTS of coffee...taste is faintly sweet but more roasty cocoa than sweet...so I guess bittersweet...a nice coffee bitterness comes out in the finish... pantanap (793), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 27, 2008 tap at Rock Fest.... poured dark brown, almost black with a fluffy light brown head..... aroma of chocolate, a little roast, and a small touch of hops..... flavores of chocolate, additional roasted and sweet malt....wish i had this one earlier on. drewbeerme (1840), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 23, 2008 Updated: Apr 6, 2008on tap at Rock Fest ’08. pours black with tan head. nose is really hoppy and chocoaletly. a roasty chocolately hoppy profile. a really great hoppy stout! 3.8.
4/6/08, growler filled a few days ago. pours black with creamy tan head. a very roasty with piney hops in the nose. flavor is really robust and roasty, lots of hop bitternes too, good piney hop profile, and a chocolately finish. a thick syrupy body, yet not quite to imperial stout body standards. this is one intense sweet stout. the hop bitterness and roasted malts a tad astringent gathering on the back of the throat making this not really sessionable but it still sure is fun to drink if you love stouts that are very well hopped and bitter. which i do. that astringency creates a preceived fizzy carbonation but the carbonation levels are average. an intense stout that has the aroma and flavor profile of an imperial stout with the body of a regular stout. very tasty indeed.3.8. Cornfield (4343), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Mar 23, 2008 Although Stouts aren’t my usual drinking styles, this one begs for a more serious tasting at the brewpub. Pouring a deep, deep dark brown with a tan head, it has a strong roasted aroma, barley & coffee, dark malts, and a touch of the hops to come. Smooth & creamy. Some dark bittersweet chocolate is added to the flavor, and some solid PNW hopping joins the fray. Very solid Stout... which I will be having a mug or two of soon. First Annual RockFest, Rock Bottom Chicago, 3/22,2008
