Clear light yellow, scant head, light sweet malt aroma, light malt flavor, touch of sweetness, just a hint of offsetting bitterness, well made, but not exciting, as a kolsch should be

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | May 4, 2003 I had this beer at the Southeastern Microbrewery Assn. annual beer fest. It was just about the best beer there. Golden color, sweet and malty, not too much hops, but the hops were definitely there. This is like the real German Kolsch. My German friend also agreed with me.

I need to find and sample a real kolsch, because I think what most micros (at least the ones I've tried) call a kolsch is really just a watered down version of their Pale or Amber. I mean, If this is a decent Kolsch, then I can't beleive this the beer that made Koln famous. Tepid bordering on bland, canned vegetable aroma and watery flavor. Ick. It is boring to me, like the art in it is keeping it tame and simple. Tame and simple is a good description of Rocky Rivers 10 Point Ale. A very light brown with tiny sweet malt start and Farina Instant Cereal-like finish. boto (1336), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 1/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Jan 27, 2003 It is a little sweet, without any malt taste, or hops for that matter. Mainly another fizzy, yellow beer. It was smooth as in the description, but that was about it's only virtue. Aurelius (2648), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Lemon tart -- it mostly just hollers ’TWANG!’ without a whole lot of contemplation. Twang fades quickly, leaving parched grain flavor. I’d recommend going for Rocky River’s Golden Eagle Lager instead.
